Documenting the end of an era
Those who follow me on Instagram will have noticed that I have been working on a project about an old tram car called SL79 in Oslo since April 2024. Sivert Almvik decided to interview me about it. I thought I might as well let my followers know.
In the interview I talk about my journey into photography, my style and subject matter, going in depth about the SL79 tram car project specifically, as well as project photography in general. The reason I want to spread the word further is that I really want to encourage others to start thinking in projects. Here’s why.
Why you should think in projects too
I have been thinking in projects for a few years already. As your library of images builds up you will probably start to see some patterns. Maybe there’s a particular place that you keep coming back to or a common denominator between the people you choose to photograph. Or maybe there’s a certain topic that interests you, but haven’t thought about making pictures about. Whatever it is, it’s likely a project worth doing.
There is a reason most good photographic education revolves around projects. I am not educated myself, but I know this from people who are and I know why from my own experience. A project…
